Locally, the City of Stratford's Green Recognition Program is promoting sustainable practices within the community and raising awareness of initiatives being undertaken to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
This program is a community call to action, and part of our efforts to meet the City’s emissions reduction targets of 30% by 2030 and net-zero by 2050.
The recognition program aims to inspire community members to take meaningful action towards addressing the impacts of climate change through a wide variety of green initiatives, and directly contribute to our GHG reduction targets.
It will also serve as an educational tool to amplify community-led efforts and sustainable practices, celebrate the success of initiatives underway and encourage further participation from the community.
The Green Recognition Program will offer the following categories for participation:
Waste Reduction & Diversion
Energy Management & Electrification
Green Building Award (New & Existing)
To get all the details about the program, eligibility, and application process, visit the City of Stratford website.
Additionally, a small suite of Save on Energy programs is being offered and managed by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), including:
The Save on Energy Retrofit program offers businesses incentives to upgrade equipment, reduce energy bills, lower carbon footprints and enhance staff comfort. The program offers financial incentives through two streams.
The custom stream offers financial incentives for businesses to undertake larger, more complex retrofit projects, that are more reflective of the participant’s actual operating conditions. The custom stream is structured to accommodate a wide range of project types to help participants capture greater energy savings.
The prescriptive stream offers financial incentives for targeted retrofits, helping participants upgrade to more energy-efficient equipment. The prescriptive stream, which focuses on commonly used products and technologies, is suitable for more typical upgrades of equipment.
Businesses can receive incentives for a variety of energy-efficient measures available in three areas: Lighting, HVAC, and Manufacturing and other equipment.

Participants will receive a $75 virtual prepaid MasterCard® when you enroll in Peak Perks™.
And, an additional $20 virtual prepaid MasterCard® each additional year you stay enrolled in the program starting in 2024.
The Peak Perks program will reduce participants’ energy use when demand for electricity in Ontario is high during the summer months, by adjusting participant's smart thermostats no more than two degrees Celsius up to 10 times during peak periods of electricity demand from June through September. These adjustments to their thermostat typically last no more than three hours and will not occur on weekends or holidays. Peak Perks has been designed to ensure participants are always in control and they can opt out of any temperature change event.
